This piece is a discovery. Repeated firings remade its surface: yellow strides like tiny stars rain from above, dissolve into opal blue, meet ochre earth, and join the dark blue sea.
The cause is accumulated heat work. Metal oxides trapped in the glossy glaze shift; micro-crystals grow or dissolve differently, changing how light strikes the surface, and so its opacity and color.
How much yellow appears cannot be fully predicted. In this kiln the phenomenon itself is fairly constant, and the glaze expression remains, overall, considerably stable.
